Coaches Tony Campbell, Dave Anderson, Jamie Ellis, Lee Claxton and Tony Pritchard have put in some long hours on the training track during the preseason refining squads and whipping the players into shape for the coming season. After an exhaustive process the numbers are now at the final stage and the preparations for the season can begin.
The senior squads have both been involved in night series competitions with mixed results, which is usually the case when coaches are predominantly looking at the players and how they perform under a variety of circumstances, whilst introducing the method of play to all the players. Now that the squads are finalised the structures and methods can be driven home to the players, ready for the first game of the season.
Our season kicks off with an away cup draw to Premier League side Stirling Lions on Saturday the 5th of April with all three teams involved. (Youth KO 11am, Stiffs KO 1pm and 1st Team KO 3pm at Macedonia Park in Osborne Park). The first league and home game will be the following week, when South West Phoenix makes the 2 hour drive up the coast to the Walter Padbury Tundra on Saturday the 12th of April.
This season promises to be very exciting with a number of new faces around the teams, bringing with them some exceptional skills and experience to blend with a solid group of quality players that have been the stalwarts of the club over the past few seasons.
